How to customize forms in Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations

Did you know that forms are customizable in Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations? When viewing a list or form you can add, remove, and edit columns. You are also able to easily reset, share, or import form settings. I have outlined these options below.

Before you begin, it is important to understand that the form page is divided into tables or sections. To make edits, you will need to make sure you are clicking within the bounds of the correct table/section. You can customize an individual column, or you can go into Personalization mode to more easily make multiple edits.

Individual Column Edits

Adding Columns/Data

Right-click anywhere in the table. Click Add a field.

A list will pop up that displays all available fields. The list will indicate the field name, the type of data for that field, and the table from which the data comes. Select as many fields as needed.

Removing Columns/Data

Right-click on the appropriate column and check the box next to Hide.

Note that you will be unable to hide some columns, because they are locked as visible by the system.

Skipping Columns When Tabbing

To save time when tabbing, you can choose to skip certain fields. Right-click on the appropriate column and check the box next to Skip in tab sequence.

Personalization Mode

Personalization Mode allows you to make the same edits that you can on individual columns, but also offers more editing options. To enter the Personalization mode: right-click anywhere in the “table.” Click Personalize this form to open the toolbar.

Moving Columns/Data

Click on the move icon.

Hove over the appropriate column until it is outlined, then click on the column and drag it to a new position.

Hiding Columns

When this icon is selected, all hidden columns will become visible. To hid more columns, select the column. Once the field below the column header turns orange, the column is now hidden.

Skipping Columns When Tabbing

When this icon is selected, you can select columns to skip when tabbing through. Once the field below the column header turns orange, the column is marked to be skipped.

Disabling Editing Functionality for Fields

When you click this icon, you can select which columns to lock to prevent editing. Notice that when right-clicking on the individual column, the Don't edit box is checked, and you will be unable to check/uncheck Hide.

Adding Fields

When you click on this icon, you will be able to add more fields. The Add Fields window will pop up and additional fields can be selected.

Managing Personalizations

Click Export to save your personalizations to an XML file that can be shared with others.

Click Import to bring in personalizations made by other users. You will be prompted to select a file from a saved location.

Click Clear to reset any of the changes you have made. Generally, you will need to refresh the page to see the changes.

Exit Personalization Mode

You cannot enter or edit data while still in Personalization Mode. Click Close to exit this mode.
