Setting Default Sites and Warehouse for Sales, Purchasing and Inventory in Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations

If you are new to Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations (Operations), there are several small setup changes that will make your inventory related transaction entry easier if you can find where to set them up. One of these is the setup for default sites and warehouses.

It is important to note that even if you use a template to set up a new item in Operations, you will need to manually complete the following steps (Setup of default sites and warehouses are not included in the item template as of the writing of this blog).

How to set up a default site and warehouse for an item:

  • In Product Information Management, open Released Products.

  • Select an item.

  • Select Manage Inventory, then Default Order Settings.

The manage inventory tab of F&O

Edit the information for Site and Warehouse in each of the Fast tabs: Purchase Order, Inventory, and Sale Order.

Another tip: If there is only one site assigned to a warehouse, you can enter the warehouse and the site will auto-fill.
