Migrating Dynamics GP
Dynamics GP is being retired—are you ready for Business Central?
Make the most of your current GP investment by planning for a migration to Business Central, the leading ERP solution for growth-minded organizations of any size, in any industry.
The future of Microsoft’s ERP
Dynamics 365 Business Central is an industry-leading ERP, and is the natural progression for organizations using Dynamics GP.
Dynamics GP has been around for a long time and has a loyal user base, but with Microsoft’s prioritization of cloud-based applications, GP will no longer be supported or improved—so it’s wise to start thinking ahead to the future of your organization’s technology investments.
What’s next for Dynamics GP?
Mainstream support for GP will be ending on December 31, 2029. There will be no more product enhancements, regulatory updates (like tax compliance changes), service packs, or technical support. After April 31, 2031, there will be no more security updates or patches. Though still usable until then, we recommend getting an action plan in place to give you a head start on a migration with purpose.

Frequently asked questions

Migrating to Business Central is an efficient, cost-effective way to bring your data and business needs up to speed with a new system. Not only do you get to keep all your records and historical data, but you get to work with it in the sleek, modern ERP interface that Business Central provides your business with. Plus, a migration to another Microsoft business application is much cheaper than a from-scratch implementation outside the Microsoft ecosystem.
-
At Syvantis, we are committed to supporting our GP clients until they choose to perform their upgrade. Our support and consulting methodology helps you make the most of your current GP investment while simultaneously becoming migration-ready.
-
Business Central natively includes more features, automation, and customization opportunities than GP. GP is a rigid application, and most organizations must bend their processes to work within GP's boundaries. The opposite is true for Business Central, which can be customized to fit to your business processes and operational workflows.
With Business Central, our recommendation is to see what works out-of-the-box, then add on from the extensive ISV marketplace (with over 4,300+ offerings, whose code is all approved by Microsoft), and development can bridge the gap of additional functionality or customizations.
-
Business Central has a native list management solution: since it is a web-based application, a "SmartList" equivalent is built into every page, allowing users to filter and export data on the fly. In GP, this feature must be opened in a separate window.
-
The Business Central licensing alone is a greatly reduced cost. Microsoft frequently offers promotions, like the Bridge to the Cloud program, to lower the overall cost of a migration.
Plus, Business Central is a cloud-based solution, meaning you won't have to pay for servers or hosting solutions.
-
Your integrations will need to be updated or redeveloped for Business Central. However, Business Central provides more out-of-the-box options and many native features replace the need for integrations altogether. Syvantis is experienced in integration redevelopment as part of GP to BC migrations.
-
A migration doesn't need to happen overnight. In fact, we recommend a gradual, thorough planning process to ensure that the switch to Business Central is advantageous, efficient, and process-oriented. Proactive planning now will make the migration itself much easier, whenever that project may occur.
In the meantime, a Partner can help you prepare your GP to become migration-ready to minimize downtime and disruptions further down the line.
