MXR Imaging began in 1956 as a company focused on maintaining darkrooms for X-ray film development and has remained under family ownership since 1964. Today, they are the largest independent provider of diagnostic imaging equipment in the country. MXR offers a suite of related services to clients, including delivery, installation, maintenance, warranty, repair, training, and medical supplies.
Their inventory consists of new, used, and refurbished MRI systems, CT scanners, ultrasound systems, PET/CT scanners, digital radiography, CR systems, C-arms, and general X-ray equipment. They also provide mobile imaging unit rentals and repair parts like MRI coils, ultrasound probes, and CT and X-ray components.
MXR Imaging stands out from its peers for its commitment to service before, during, and after customer engagements, a hallmark of the business since its inception. They continue to advance the broader industry with exciting innovations in veterinary science, orthopedics, and even archaeology.
Syvantis Technologies, Inc. is a Microsoft partner with more than 25 years of experience across the Microsoft business ecosystem, including Business Central and its predecessor, Dynamics NAV, the Dynamics 365 CE suite, Copilot and AI applications, and Power Platform products.
Syvantis’ operating model deliberately differs from much of the industry: Syvantis does not pay consultants bonuses on billable time or pay sales commissions, and it performs 85% of projects at a fixed price. Actual client needs drive recommendations, and processes always guide implementations, integrations, and enhancements. Syvantis consultants have real-world experience in the industries they support—from manufacturing and distribution to healthcare operations—and bring recognized industry best practices and experience to every client relationship.
Even after the initial engagement, Syvantis clients work with the same consultants throughout their entire partnership rather than moving between disconnected sales, implementation, and support teams. For MXR Imaging, that model has supported a long-term partnership extending beyond the initial Business Central transformation into continued integration, reporting, inventory, service, and platform enhancement work.

A history of steady expansion, including several acquisitions each year since 2005, had left MXR Imaging operations spread across several disparate technological platforms: SAP, Dynamics GP, QuickBooks, Fishbowl, and Salesforce. This patchwork environment meant there was no consolidated system of record capable of supporting MXR under a single operating model.
MXR Imaging first engaged Syvantis Technologies to implement Business Central as a centralized operational system and the foundation for a broader technical environment capable of supporting multiple operating entities across its sales, service, inventory, project, purchasing, and financial processes. Several factors complicated that transformation:
First, MXR Imaging needed to preserve Salesforce as part of its target architecture, because the platform hosted its entire front-end sales and service operations. This would require a custom integration between Salesforce and Business Central, so the two could function as a single integrated environment across relevant sales, equipment, project, service, customer, operational, and financial records.
Second, the series of rapid acquisitions had created a situation in which many companies existed within the same legal entity yet continued to operate almost entirely independently of one another. This would require extensive meetings with subject-matter experts to identify which processes the companies could merge and, where they could not, how to select operating software and development that would accommodate multiple operating processes with consolidated financials.
The nature of the industry and MXR Imaging's unique position within it required a complex system. More than simple order-to-invoice functionality, MXR Imaging needed project structures, budgeting, task controls, invoice support, and cross-system identifiers.
With acquired companies operating across different business technologies, establishing Dynamics 365 Business Central as the ERP foundation for MXR Imaging’s consolidated operating model was the first priority. The functional design spanned core financial and operational processes as well as equipment, supplies, parts, service, projects, inventory, leases and rentals, integrations, EDI, and reporting. Syvantis designed a single Business Central company for MXR Imaging and Nationwide (an MXR subsidiary) using Binary Stream Multi-Entity Management and established a separate Business Central company for MXR Canada. Salesforce remained part of the architecture, and Syvantis integrated it with the Business Central environment.
Rather than relying solely on individual point-to-point connections, Syvantis developed a custom integration framework to manage the flow of information between Salesforce and Business Central. The framework gives MXR visibility into integration activity, including requests the framework has successfully processed, requests awaiting processing, and requests that have encountered an error. It also includes tools for retrying and reprocessing requests and managing archived activity. The framework supports integration across customers, contacts, items, purchasing, sales, service, transfers, vendors, and other related records.
The framework also incorporates functionality specific to MXR’s equipment and service operations. Serial number logic identifies equipment or parts with links to Salesforce when applicable MXR or Salesforce identifiers are present. Custom logic assigns the appropriate service-order type to service orders and enables revaluation unless an explicit block prevents it.
Syvantis also developed an extension to support project-oriented work and complex equipment transactions. Custom layers and queries roll budgets, statuses, dimensions, and project management processes across projects and up into the custom Main Project for accurate invoices, reports, and batch posting.
Following successful completion of the initial acquisition consolidation and ERP implementation project, the platform continues to evolve alongside MXR. Current work includes custom emailing scenarios, additional integrations, reporting updates, WMS, freight management, and continuous improvement to sales and services processes. Syvantis has also developed substantial B2B Shopify integration capabilities as part of the platform's ongoing expansion.
What began as an initiative to consolidate business systems developed into a broader transformation of MXR's operating model. Business Central now provides the ERP foundation for that model, while Salesforce continues to integrate with it as part of the broader architecture. The MXR team now enjoys improved system visibility and usage across the entire operational ecosystem.
MXR's former fragmented collection of ERP and operational platforms now follows a unified model that supports its financial, inventory, equipment, service, project, purchasing, and related operational processes.
Just as importantly, the client-partner relationship extends beyond the primary implementation. Syvantis and MXR continue to refine the platform as the business evolves, extending and adapting the environment rather than treating the original implementation as a one-time handoff.
Syvantis and MXR continue to expand and enhance this complex network of companies within Business Central.
The next phases of work underway include new process design and adoption, such as adding advanced email functionality, consolidating companies, and enhancing analytics. Despite the sheer scale and intricacies of the initial implementation, MXR’s business suite has shifted from rapid, continuous changes to a steady operational state.
Syvantis became an extension of the MXR Imaging team during this initial project. Such a client-vendor partnership relies on mutual trust and support and allows for flexible, transparent decision-making that benefits both companies as they strive toward their shared goals.
